Smith & Thell - Illusion
Song Of The Day comes from another Swedish act, this time it's the turn of duo Smith & Thell.
Smith & Thell have been on my radar for some time. They released their debut in early 2012 with 'Kill It With Love', which boasted a fabulous electro-pop sound. Mary Jane Smith's vocals immediately had me very interested. Her high-pitched and silky calls of 'kill it with love!' throughout the track made for a very strong debut. It was obvious to me that this band were capable of producing something massive in the future, as this track was just teetering on the edge of incredible. 'Super DJ' was also very good and furthered my interest in them, but there was a little something missing.
But, boy, have they delivered with Illusion? The track sees them turn further into the 'house' sound, very in sync with the charts. The breakdown in the track certainly has a Swedish House Mafia vibe to it, and not a 'tinny, averagely produced' breakdown - this really is something superb. In the first verse, there's even a car siren - not every day you hear that in a track. But it works, it all works so well. The chorus sees Smith sing 'you're an illusion' in that fabulous feminine tone she has.
This time Smith & Thell have got it so right, and this is definitely the best thing I've heard from them so far. It's got that euphoric feel and they've really thrown everything at this track to ensure it's a real dance stomper. The anthemic 'whoaahhhh' chants at the end just add that extra special something to the track - think 'Viva La Vida' or 'Amazing' by Danny Saucedo.
I can't stop raving about this track and it's not just my Song Of The Day but in between plays of 'Roar' by Katy Perry, this is just about my Song Of The Moment. Listen here:
