Alaskan Night - Be As One
Why stop at one electro-pop infused blog treat when you can have two? Luckily, I'm gonna be kind enough to deal you a second one.
Introducing Alaskan Night, who believe it or not, is actually just one person. Once again, like with Vagueabonde, I'd love to give you a rundown on Alaskan Night as a person - but there really isn't much information. Infact, with Alaskan Night, you literally just get lots of results offering you holidays to Alaska if you look on Google. That's not really ideal for this blog post - but, as luck would have it, it does have that dreamy vibe that would sound perfect lying on a sunbed by the pool side on holiday. Just perhaps not in Alaska.
On further searches, it turns out that Alaskan Nights hails from Sydney in Australia - which just so happens to be the same city that Empire Of The Sun originate from. And if anyone knows how to do a synth-pop type track exquisitely, then it's them. His Facebook page also tells us that he likes Miike Snow, Friendly Fires and Phoenix. Very good choices.
When I first saw about this producer, my first thought was 'maybe something like Owl City?' - and I wasn't a million miles off. The sound is a little like Owl City-meets-The Sound Of Arrows, with a definite electro/synth-pop sound bursting through. The verses lead us kindly into a very soothing track, but the track really ramps up a level when a stuttered 'can we be as one?' is repeated; assisted by a building drum beats. This drum beat reaches it's crescendo, and bursts into an understated instrumental. You could be forgiving for thinking a hard-hitting electro-pop instrumental was coming, but it's certainly not massive.
The beauty of this track does lie in it's simplicity, which helps to round off a really gorgeous and tender feel. And I think I may have heard something that sounds like a steel pan drum in this track, and that always gives me a really summery vibe (take Phone Sex by Blood Diamonds).
Here's the track in it's synthy deliciousness:
