Taped Rai - Shadow Of The Sun
As a blogger - it's completely important to be up with the latest music. Apparently. Unless you're me who decides to blog about things 3 months after their premiere.
However, songs don't age in the space of 3 months - and regardless of when you find them, some songs are still absolute genius. And, while I'm late to the Taped Rai party, I can assure you that I am 100% in love. You may recognise the name of Taped Rai, after they featured on David Guetta's Top 20 hit 'Just One Last Time', but apart from that, very little is known of the Swedish duo. Something which is a great shame, as they're absolutely bloody fantastic.
They premiered their second release recently, a song called Backyard Animals. That track is great. But from this, I stumbled on 'Shadow Of The Sun', or to be more precise, 'Epilogue I & II - Shadow Of The Sun'. I think the former is a bit more snappy, so we'll run with that. 'Shadow Of The Sun' managed to divulge into a myriad of sounds through one track, and despite being very structurally unusual, the duo absolutely make it work.
For the majority of the track, a very chilling vocal performance is delivered on the track, displaying a exquisite falsetto. This is layered over a very simple piano beat, which gives the track such a soothing & elegant feel. But at around the 3:15 mark, something starts to change. A small, quivering synth builds in - and slowly grows. And by we reach 3:45 mark, the track is catapulted into a colossal dance beat. Should a piano ballad ever turn into a dance stomper? Well, we'd previously have said no, but we say 'yes' to this track in particular.
I can't put into words how much I am loving this right now, and the enfusing of two completely different sounds, in the end, reminds me of something in the vein of The Sound Of Arrows, and leaves me absolutely entranced.
Simply fantastic.
