Kate Boy - The Way We Are
If you can't find anything to blog out about - then scouring through Sweden always seems like a good start.
And, after 'Northern Lights' and 'In Your Eyes' impressed me so - I was definitely intrigued to listen to Kate Boy's new track (just in case you've never heard of them before - they're a group, and yes, I once thought it was a female too). Kate Boy are an Aussie/Swedish quartet, comprising of one Aussie vocallist, and three Swedish producers. The culmination of these vocals and the quirky production always make for very intriguing tracks.
And 'The Way We Are' is certainly no let down - and following on from two BIG tracks, they certainly had a task on their hands to create a track as impressive. So, it's not quite up to Northern Lights standards - but let's discuss The Way We Are anyway. The intro begins with a very heavy thumping beat, enfused with the quirky synths that are to be heard throughout all of Kate Boy's material. This beat continues through the verse, slowly building towards a powerful chorus - with Kate Akhurst's vocals really booming over a steady chorus instrumental.
The raw vocals from Kate singing 'got to get this out of my head', layered over an unusual disco type beat, create a very powerful song overall. The final 30 seconds also sees the production take a new level, as the Swedes let loose on the track, with beeping, and squelchy synths closing the track off in quite a spectacular and memorable style.
