Robert DeLong - Global Concepts
It's a new month, and a new layout for the site - and time for some fresh sounds to land on the blog.
On research, it seems like the artist we write about today, Robert DeLong, is a jack of all trades - drummer, producer, vocallist, programmer... basically he knows his stuff when it comes to music. And his track, which we heard about two weeks ago, 'Global Concepts' shows that he doesn't half know how to create a quirky little track - one of which we're struggling to pinpoint to a certain genre, as it really is a pretty all round track, that will appeal to all sorts of audience. With quirky breakdowns, but a deep and cool vocal, audiences from dance fans, to alternative fans will probably see something that tickles their fancy with this track.
Global Concepts really is a dance-electronic track, but if you're going into this expecting a new 'We Found Love' or 'Titanium', then you're definitely looking at the wrong kind of dance. This isn't your run of the mill EDM sound that the dance industry seems to be churning out daily - there's something very unique about this, but DeLong begs the question in this track, 'did I make you fucking dance?'. Well, as it happens, you did make me dance. In my seat, I didn't stand up, but I did a little bum wiggle in my seat. Good enough?
The vocals in the track are layered and almost sound quite robotic - which then leads into quite a robotic and crazy breakdown, matched together with drums. Not your generic breakdown for a dance track, eh? The track doesn't really seem to have too much of a structure either, some stutters here, some more asking if you want to fucking dance, some breakdowns bigger than the other, some random drums just thrown in for the fun. But, if anything, it's all this that helps to make a very stand-out track.
And, the track, under further research seems to have made top 50 on iTunes in Australia. Is this a new wave of dance coming along - goodbye with the Guetta's and Harris's, and hello to the DeLong's? We wouldn't complain if they sounded like Global Concepts!
