Miriam Bryant - Push Play
Now for something a little different to the electronic songs that have become commonplace on Stereo Gold - returning to solo females.
Some of the more popular posts on this blog have come from Owlle, Vita Chambers, A*M*E with some wonderful pop songs - so while the artist we post about today, Miriam Bryant, isn't as all out pop as those three, there's something very interesting about her that caught my attention within the first 20 seconds of hearing her new song.
Miriam Bryant is a 21 year old Swedish singer-songwriter, which has me immediately excited from the introduction of her nationality. In my eyes, Sweden make pop music better than any others, and Miriam is a wonderful example of this. 'Push Play' is a superb piece of a pop, the bleeping intro reminding me a little bit of 'Jerk It Out' by Caesars, though that is the only similarity to it at all - don't worry.
The song starts to build up with bangs, as Miriam's silky voice (which sounds like a posh Londoner, making it all the more surprising she is actually from Sweden) leads you to something special - and there are drums that remind you of a soldiers march. This builds to a very summery and pretty instrumental without vocals - like a less in your face Anything Could Happen type instrumental... and no 'ee' noises.
The main chorus of Push Play however is very strong, with Miriam wailing 'push play, stop, rewind - you drown your heroes in red wine', which is a very good lyric in my eyes. There's something about her voice, while not being massively unique, that really creates a magical sound to her music. There's something very Ellie Goulding about this track - and I'm interested to hear much more from Bryant.
Here is 'Push Play;
